Things to Do Near Shore Drive
Shore Drive sits in the Arcadian Shores area between Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, and it's known for quieter beaches and a relaxed, upscale feel. You get a peaceful home base with the best of the Grand Strand just a short drive away. Here are a few of our favorite ways to spend your days.
Tip: hours, prices, and schedules change by season, so check with each venue before you go.
The Beach
The Shore Drive area offers wide, sandy beaches with a calmer atmosphere than the busy high-rise district farther south. Spend the day swimming, building sandcastles, or walking the shoreline at sunrise.
- Apache Pier: a long wooden fishing pier at the north end of the Shore Drive area, popular for fishing, sightseeing, and sunrise and sunset views.
- Beach rules: rules on things like tents, alcohol, glass, and pets differ between the City of Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and unincorporated Horry County. Check local rules for the stretch of beach you're on.
Right on Shore Drive
Some of the area's casual favorites are close by, including Ocean Annie's Beach Bar, Flip Flops Bar & Grill, and Harry the Hat's, along with ice cream shops and local eateries.
Barefoot Landing
Set along the Intracoastal Waterway in North Myrtle Beach, Barefoot Landing is an open-air destination with shops, restaurants, and entertainment. It's also home to the Alabama Theatre and Alligator Adventure, so it's easy to fill an afternoon or evening there.
Alligator Adventure
Located at Barefoot Landing, Alligator Adventure is a reptile park where you can see alligators, crocodiles, snakes, and other animals up close, with educational shows and feedings. It's a hit with kids and curious grown-ups alike.
Broadway at the Beach
This large shopping, dining, and entertainment complex in Myrtle Beach is built around a lake and includes Ripley's Aquarium, plenty of attractions, shops, and restaurants. It's a great rainy-day or evening option.
Golf
The Myrtle Beach area is one of the country's best-known golf destinations, with dozens of courses within a short drive. Nearby options include Arcadian Shores Golf Club, Dunes Golf & Beach Club, and Barefoot Resort Golf. TopGolf is another fun choice for a more casual swing.
Dining
- Restaurant Row: just minutes from Shore Drive, this stretch is lined with seafood houses, steakhouses, and casual spots.
- Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach: both offer a wide range of restaurants in one place.
- Murrells Inlet MarshWalk: a waterfront boardwalk of restaurants and bars south of Myrtle Beach, worth the drive for seafood with a view.
Shows and Entertainment
Catch a live show at the Alabama Theatre at Barefoot Landing, the Carolina Opry, or Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show. Downtown, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and the SkyWheel make for a fun evening stroll.
Shopping
Tanger Outlets is a short drive away, and Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach both have plenty of shops for souvenirs, beachwear, and gifts.
Seasonal Events
There's something happening on the Grand Strand most of the year. Highlights often include:
- Spring: North Myrtle Beach's St. Patrick's Day festival and parade on Main Street
- Summer: Fourth of July fireworks along the coast and summer festivals and concerts
- Fall: cooler weather, quieter beaches, and great golf season
- Winter: holiday light displays and events around the Grand Strand
